You are of Great Worth

5 This is what the Lord says:

“What fault did your ancestors find in me,

that they strayed so far from me?

They followed worthless idols

and became worthless themselves. (Jeremiah 2:5)

In the above scripture, we read that the followers became worthless. This worthlessness, we are told, was an aftermath of their decision to follow idols. You see, it isn't so much the idols in themselves as it is the philosophies their pagan worship demanded. The idols themselves are nothing. They are lifeless. Therefore, the worthlessness of these ancestors was not as a result of the things made by their hands (the idols). Instead, it was a result of the philosophies they chose to follow.

Let's break it down: To follow God is to avail yourself to his Word. It is to recognize him as leader and to submit yourself to His instructions and entire Being. However, these ancestors chose to avail themselves to idols and the teachings of darkness. This very action is discussed in Romans 1 where we are told:

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. (Romans 1:21-22)

Therefore, it is in foolishness that a man submits himself to teachings of darkness. And this very action is a damnation into a continual realm of sinking, where the very philosophies exalted by the foolish man, continue to make him more foolish and worthless. However, there are better things said about us. We know that it is written in Ephesians:

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

Also, in Corinthians it says:

21 God made him who had no sin to be sin[a] for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

(2 Corinthians 5:21)

All Christians are certainly far above worthlessness. We are children of God and of great value, highly esteemed and regarded by our Abba father.

Today, I will like to encourage you to embrace the reality that you are of great value to God. You are his workmanship and his child. He has attributed his righteousness to you and you are a great force of light. Therefore, I entreat you to let your daily life choices and decisions be beneficial to the family of God. I encourage you to submit to godly philosophies and to do away with carnal opinions that are a direct contradiction of the word of God. And by God's grace you shall do so. In this way, you shall be a great asset to The Lord, manifesting the worthy person you already are and bringing glory to Jesus, who deserves all the praise for his perfect sacrifice attained for your good.
